BC Living Arts launches Kamloops’ annual
inaugural Arts Festival, THRiVE
KAMLOOPS – APRIL 2ND, 2013 - BC Living Arts is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Kamloops THRiVE Festival, a three-day integrated, hands-on festival of arts, culture and healthy living set to premiere June 21-23, 2013. The media and public were invited to join the festival leadership team, Artistic Director Alan Corbishley, Festival Manager Amanda Lynne Ballard and the BC Living Arts Board of Directors on April 2nd, 2013 at Thompson Rivers University’s Culinary Arts Building for the first insight into the festival’s programming, website, ticket sales and other key insider information for this exciting new Kamloops event.
Curated by Kamloop’s own Corbishley, the Kamloops THRiVE Festival is a confluence for mind, body and soul development designed to illustrate that creativity is not confined only to the traditional art forms such as music, visual arts, dance or drama, but is also found in recreation, pastimes, and everyday activities.
The inaugural festival features leading local, national and international experts such as Kamloops’ based photographer Kelly Funk, national writing sensation Sharon Butala, BC’s go-to-gardener Brian Minter and many more who are designing and facilitating one-of-a-kind personal development programs. An array of concerts, exhibitions and cultural activities extend the experience for an inclusive, and diverse festival that is accessible to an entire community.
Concert performances include, Penticton super-star poet Shane Koyczan; Borealis String Quartet featuring soprano Martha Guth; CBC’s award winning folk band The Deep Dark Woods; and on tour from Vancouver Laura Crema and Karin Plato join Miles Black on piano, Bill Coon on guitar and Jodi Proznick on bass for a not-to-miss afternoon Jazz Duet Concert.
In addition to the a la carte courses and concerts the festival is proud to present the THRiVE Expo, a collection of accessible programmes, art installations, presentations and more. Programming includes Kamloops first ever Iron Chef, all day film programmes, a multidisciplinary speaker series, BC Reads, Lee’s Local Music stage, hands-on work shops with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and more.
